Rachmaninov competition was first established in 1983 by the Ministry of culture of the USSR as All-union Competition for pianists.
From the outset it has become a monographic event only Rachmaninov's works performed in it's programme.The first All-Union Rachmaninov Competition took place 1983.
Chairman of the jury - Andrei Eshpai.

   1 st prize - A.Pisarev, K.Scherbakovl
2nd prize - Osipova
  3rd prize - A.Botvinov, A.Kornienko

The second All-Union Rachmaninov Competition took place in 1989.

1st prize - A.Mardasov
2nd price - I.Itin

The first International Rachmaninov Competition for pianists took place in 1993.
It was organized by Ministry for the Culture, International Music Union, Moscow Conservatoire and Rachmaninov Society with the contest of the possessor of the copy-rights and Rachmaninov's heir, his grand-son Alexander Rachmaninov.

       The third International Rachmaninov Competition took   place in 2002.
