The Rachmaninov Society is pleased to bring to you this new web resource.Through the use of internet technologies we are building resources to provide information, training, and notices of upcoming events worldwide as the world continues to explore and enjoy the work of Sergei Rachmaninov.We will be providing audio and video materials, both live and archived, and access to exciting events, as competitions and international courses. In addition to Master classes with world class professionals and instruction at the level of students in piano, most instruments, conducting, and composition are available in locations that can be arranged for groups throughout the world by contacting us.
A Little About Who We Are:The Rachmaninov Society was founded in 1980 in Russia by Victor Merzhanov, and visionary Suat Orgev. The purpose of the Society is to proclaim the life and works of Sergei Rachmaninov and make them known to new generations to come. This is done through support for continuing research on the life of Rachmaninov, concerts, internet correspondence, piano competitions, support to artists, and development of events and programs that reflect the values of the life of this great composer, concert pianist, conductor, humanitarian, and recording artist.
Victor Merzhanov was born in Tambov. He studied piano with both Prokofiev and Rachmaninov. He achieved international recognition as a pianist in 1945 when he shared with Svyatoslav Richter the first prize at the All Union Piano Competition. V.Merzhanov has given concerts in Europe, the USA and other countries performing with many outstanding conductors and orchestras. His many (major-label) recordings made in the USA, Italy, Japan and the USSR prove him to be a world-class pianist. From the start of his musical career he was also devoted to modern music. V.Merzhanov who chosen by Sergei Prokofiev to give the first performance of his Sixth Sonata. Today Professor at Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire and Tambov Rachmaninoff Institute Victor Merzhanov is active as a member of the jury in international competitions all over the world: the Rachmaninov Competition in Moscow, the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the Bartok-List Competition in Budapest, International Competitions in Montreal, Tokyo, Brussels and many others. V.Merzhanov is the artistic director of the Rachmaninov Piano Courses, a leading professor at Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
